Social media has proven to be an integral tool for your weight loss journey. 

A recent study from Centers from Disease Control and Prevention reports that a staggering 69 percent of Americans are overweight. By me being within that 69 percent, it’s troubling to know that almost 7 out of 10 people are not hitting the gym enough. Well, it’s time to get active again and you can start with social media.

Who enjoys working out alone? Sometimes you may not know what to do when you’re at the gym, and you observe the nice muscled figure to your left, impressed with what they’re doing. Maybe lifting that 90 pound dumbbell isn’t for you, so what’s your next option? If you are like me, you’ll have a ton of support apps on your phone for working out. Even then, you still may not feel completely satisfied when the mobile personal training work out is done. You’ll be surprised how lurking on an Instagram page of someone who’s in great shape, or reblogging a nutritional meal on Tumblr can help with trying to do it yourself


Here’s 3 reasons why seeking some assistance through social media may come in handy for your weight loss goals: 

  1. Follow personal trainers and/or others who have similar goals for health and fitness. There’s a realm of personal trainers and health experts out there you can follow on social media. You get instant access to connect with them and they can provide you useful information towards developing an effective regiment. It also helps that you get involve in a social community of people who may be able to assist you with your fitness goals. Having someone who has been in your shoes and display actual results can push you to do the same. If they can do it, you can, right?
  2. Download apps like “Myfitnesspal” to inform your social community of your weight loss progress. Your dieting friends want to know what you’ve done to fit into that new blouse or skinny jean. Apps on fitness are available for your benefit and 9 times out of 10, they’re free to download. It’s time consuming to track your food intake and physical activity on paper, and no one has perfect memory – let’s be frank. Apps like Myfitnesspal can be your diary of nutritional intake. Just make sure that after every meal or snack, you’re tracking it. After you’ve put all the information needed in the app, Myfitnesspal makes a judgement on where you could be in the next 5 weeks. You have the option to post status of your weight loss journey, making your social community jealous of you (or thrilled, for those friends cheering you on).
  3. Seek motivation from blogs that are rich with weight loss stories. Tumblr and Instagram are good places to keep yourself motivated to stay on track. There are tons of blogs as well you can follow that has endless stories of individuals who’ve done what you’re trying to do. Who doesn’t get amazed at those “before & after” pictures with the stories that follow? The biggest thing to staying active is being motivated to stay active, and social media can help with this. It’s easy to fall off track and put off time at the gym, but an Instagram post can change your mind.

Losing weight can be easy with the help of your social community. The next time you get on the scale to track your progress, you’ll see.
